What Do You Want to Create This Year? 5 Questions

This past weekend I got to go sledding with my kiddos and truly, I cannot remember the last time we had that much fun doing an activity as a family.

Now that my kids are getting a little bit older (no longer in diapers) it feels like the years of nap schedules and constant home life are over and a new chapter awaits. My heart feels so full thinking of this coming year and how many more moments like this that we have to look forward to together this year as a family.

At the end of every year and at the beginning I like to take some time to reflect, contemplate and dream. It’s such a perfect time to look back at the past year and also look ahead at what’s to come (or what you’d like to take the first steps to bring into your life this year in 2024)!

Looking back at this past year, I learned a lot about myself and how to take my own personal self-care to the next level by setting clearer boundaries about what I need in all areas of my life (work life, personal relationships and down-time).

I discovered that I actually need a lot more downtime and patience with myself than I previously thought, especially if I want to do creative work or bring forth something new into creation - whether this be something as simple as experimenting with a new recipe in my kitchen or a professional project that I want to complete. The larger the project, the more downtime I need to bring this into existence.

Looking back at years before, when I was bringing forth my children into creation, I was exhausted and completely worn out the entire nine months. If there was one thing I learned from each of my pregnancies, it was this same message.

The process of creation just takes time, energy, rest and a whoolatta patience.
This year, I learned this lesson AGAIN and in a whole new way than I had previously with my pregnancies. I didn’t just learn how much intentional energy goes into creating something new. I understood what intentional energy is, in a much deeper way.

I used to think of intentional energy as synonymous with intentional actions. What this year taught me is how much intentional energy we need behind the scenes, especially when we are not in “doing” mode or carrying out actions.

How can you start embodying this sort of intentional energy for one of your New Year’s resolutions this year? Before you even start taking action? Or in between taking actions?

How would embodying your intentions for 2024 change the way you prioritize your day, carry yourself, or even the way you talk to those around you?

If you haven’t gotten clear on your own New Year’s resolutions yet, I invite you to check out some of my favorite questions I like to ask myself at the start of the new year. I hope they inspire something new and beautiful to come into existence in your life this coming year.

Here are some questions to get the creative juices flowing….

  1. Looking back at the past year, what’s working for you? Where do you feel ease, intention, self-kindness, flow?

  2. Now looking back, what’s not working? Where do you feel restriction, unease, blocked?

  3. What do you need/want when it comes to your personal life? Professional life? Health and wellness?

  4. What does your “ideal day” look like for this new year?

  5. If there was no wrong answer and no one and nothing could stop you, what would you do this year? And what else?

May this practice serve as a reset and help generate a fresh perspective on both your personal and professional goals this year.
